This week for my poetry challenge Jane Dougherty (the Poet of the Week winner from last month’s photo prompt) selected the image below for poetic inspiration.
This photo spoke to me of rebirth. I imagined the remnants of our civilization clinging to life after the mother goddess purged the land with fire. Afterward, she cleansed her home with water – the giver of life. Somehow nature will change and adapt. I just don’t know if humans will be part of that reality.

The Awakening
The remnants of the storm disappeared into the silvered mists where the sky and water joined as one. I clung to an uppermost branch, struggling to keep my head above the rising tides. I listened as sea bird cries welcomed me to a new day.
Wind, the calming breath of the goddess
brought moisture to the thirsty land.
Water, the life source endured
quenching the fires and flames
that stoked climate change
across our lands.
This rebirth
brings us
life.

Climate change protestors across the globe took to the streets Friday to demand that leaders tackle climate change in the run-up to a U.N. summit.
Inspired by the Swedish teen, Greta Thunberg, many of the protestors were children who walked out of classes to join the cause.
If the kids understand the urgency of this issue, why can’t our elected officials?

Hi, Sis! It seems our thoughts are connected this week. I speak of the end and you speak of the beginning/rebirth of the world. I love your Haibun/Nonet! Absolutely beautiful. ❤ xo

I agree. What we humans have done… Wow. I don’t know if we can fix this mess.

The people who govern our planet need to find some common sense, and soon…
Maybe they should start by reading all these beautiful (and poignant) poems!

I think you’re right, Jaye. How people can ignore the signs is beyond me. It’s all about money. The wealthy want to rule the planet. 😦

Not for long though, if they don’t do something soon…

I don’t blame you. I worry about us, the people who are adults already, what we’re going to do collectively. 🙂

This is evocative, Colleen. Yes, rebirth–perhaps without humans to mess things up. We’re just a small blip in time anyway. 🙂

I could see it happening that way, Merril. The image had so many possibilities. ❤

Lovely poem Colleen, and yes our youth are grasping the nettle so to speak, I am given hope that Change can be instigated as we each learn we each hold personal responsibility for our actions as we unite to bring awareness with ‘mindful’ actions and intentions..
Wonderful to see the world unite this way Colleen. ❤

I thought of you when I read that article about people uniting and standing up to voice their opinions. United we stand! ❤

Indeed Colleen… We have to unite and realise there are those intent on Dividing and conquering… And to the means they use to do so… So its important to keep love as our intention and not get caught up in anger or judgement, hard as that is to do… ❤

Yes I catch myself failing often… But being aware is the main thing and then reviewing how we were programmed to think… The media is geared to division… and manipulation .. So, so long as we try our best to be our best… that is all we can do… And remind others that we are programmed deeply and indoctrinated through centuries of wounding… All of that has to be cleared.. I have worked through many layers, and still a work in progress..
We also have to understand that Nations too hold Karma and this too is being released, and cleansed.. Its a remarkable time we chose to be here.. Our work is now not getting bogged down in negative vibes.. The media now is hyping up both sides of the ocean to create division and that feeling of hopelessness.. Its done deliberately to lower our frequencies because we are at that Capitol point of Change.. It can still tip either way.. So its so, so important for us not to be disillusioned and doubt..
This battle has to be fought so to speak, and many are already watching us closely from other orbits!!…. As we transcend into the vibration we were taken from and trapped here in this 3rd Density/ vibration.. of matter and material free will..
I know there are beings watching who cannot interfere in our own process of evolution.. But they are guiding us and nudging us in the right direction.. So keep good heart my friend.. ❤ Much love

This brings hope in the form of rebirth Colleen.
Lovely poem but just hope we don’t mess up our planet and leave future generations with a hopeless situation.

That’s my biggest fear, Marje. Our “so-called” president doesn’t even believe that climate change exists. It’s all about money – oil, gas, and greed. It’s a bleak future. Let’s hope we can elect people that understand the crisis and want to find solutions to fix it. ❤ The rebirth is getting new elected officials. LOL! 😀 ❤

Yes I hope that new elected officials will see how urgent the need is Colleen. ❤ It is terrifying if this lack of care continues.
