“Come one, come all, the circus is in town,” bellowed the bearded lady.
Me and Jude stood at the side of the road and gawked at the circus wagons. The calliope played with such fervor we had to cover our ears from the noise. We’d never smelled so many smells at the same time.
When the wagon of monkeys stopped, the critters screeched and pointed, like we were the funny ones.
“What do you think, Jude? Is your ma gonna let you go?”
“I hope so. Last year when I asked her all she said was, “When pigs fly!””

Haha, enjoyed your take, Colleen. 🙂

I could see those two boys. When I was a kid we used to go on field trips to Baraboo, Wisconsin. It was a huge circus museum. Good memories. ❤

Somehow, I don’t think young Jude is going to make it to the circus this year.

LOL, right? I could see these two boys! I bet they sneak in under the tent flaps! 😂

They’ll go, where there’s a will there’s way. Just don’t tell Ma.

The snuck under the tent flap. That way Ma didn’t know. 🤣

Lol. I like that phrase. Great story to go along with it, Colleen. Did you get to go this year?

No circus for us this year but I have great memories from when I was a kid. It’s not like it used to be. 🧡

Yeah. We went to one a few years ago that had no animals. It was still wonderful, but different.

I used to go to the circus museum in Baraboo, WI as a child. It was magical! Old circus wagons drawn by horses that were so beautiful. I took my grand children to a circus in Montana years ago. It just wasn’t the same. ❤️

How cool to see the old wagons. No, they aren’t like that any more.

The circus isn’t what it used to be. Ma shouldn’t let them go, she should take them and spend quality time.

LOL! I saw this in mind as a flash from the past-back when the coming of the circus was exciting to kids. It’s hard not to get a Stephen King or Dean Koontz edge to any story about a circus! LOL! 🤡🎪🎡🎠

Hi,Colleen
I wrote a story on “when pigs fly”
I heard this phrase first time.
Thank you I’m learning 😊

I love the way kids can confuse the meanings of adult sayings! Fun flash and vintage circus art.

Funny. I bet a Carney show could make some ‘Pigs Fly’ and then Mama’d be in trouble!! 😉

I’ll keep my fingers crossed for young Jude, that the circus has flying pigs on its itinerary.

LOL! I could see these two boys in mind. In the 1930’s in America the circus was a big deal. Strange and wonderful sites were found under the big top circus tent. It’s not like that anymore but it’s still fun to see. ❤️
