The Sisterhood of the Raven, 99 word story

Since there is a lull today from Yule Blessings Book Tour, I thought I would sneak in my 99 Word story for Carrot Ranch. The rules are below:

November 28, 2022, Carrot Ranch prompt: In 99 words (no more, no less), write a story using the saying, “not my monkeys, not my circus”. What is the situation that would spawn that aphorism? Have fun with setting and characters! Go where the prompt leads!

Submit by December 3, 2022. Please use the form if you want to be published in the weekly collection. The Collection publishes on the Wednesday following the next Challenge. Rules & Guidelines. Stories must be 99-words.

The first meeting of the Sisterhood of the Raven started off with a bang! Literally.

It was the fault of Clara, the Wicked Witch of the West. She argued about the sitting arrangement. She cast a spell bomb that filled the room with smoke. What a temper tantrum!

Our ears were still ringing from the explosion when I stepped in. I launched a wind spell to clear the air. My spell went wrong and flying monkeys filled the room.

The last words I heard from the Wicked Witch were, “not my monkeys, not my circus.”

The meeting was adjourned.

  1. A very clever take on the prompt! The only person I’ve heard use the expression “not my monkeys, not my circus” is a former boss. It is very apt for higher education administration, which can become circus-esque with monkeys of the flying variety, dancing bears, lion-taming, and suchlike.
