Colleen’s Coffee Klatch: Judy Mastrangelo, Artist & Author

Hello everyone! Welcome to Colleen’s Coffee Klatch. Where I grew up, the Kaffee klatsch was all the rage. Folks (mostly women) would get together, share a cup of coffee, and catch up on their lives.

Thanks so much for stopping by to share a cup of coffee and a chat. Whenever I can, I like to reconnect with my favorite authors to catch up and see what’s new in their writing world.

This week I’m thrilled to introduce my friend, artist, and author, Judy Mastrangelo.

Judy has a new oracle deck to share with us today.

(I own Judy’s deck, Inspirational Visions. I’ve created a page HERE for links to the Tarot and oracle decks I use regularly. Maybe you will find inspiration from these decks too!

Judy Mastrangelo has written and illustrated several books, which include themes of poetry, fairytales, and fairies. She follows in the tradition of “The Art of the Golden Age of Illustration.”

Some of her titles include a series of four Fairy books: “Portal to the Land of Fae,” which include Flower Fairies, Fairy Tale Fairies, Secrets of the Fairies, and Mystical Fairies. Additional books include “What Do Bunnies Do All Day?” and “Enchanted Fairy Tales,” which she illustrated and adapted “The Star,” illustrating the poem “Twinkle, Twinkle, Little Star,” and her new fairytale “The Magic Blanket”.

Besides creating books, her artwork has been used in several inspirational oracle card decks, as well as some she has also written herself. She licenses her artwork for many products, including art prints and wall murals.

Judy has taught creative drama and dance and painting to children and adults, and has directed her own community theatre for all ages. As part of her work, she enjoys encouraging people to develop their own imagination and artistic talents.

Hi, Colleen. It’s great to share a cup of coffee with you!

Hi Judy. How exciting to hear about your newest addition to your oracle deck family! What is this deck called?

I’m delighted to have both written and illustrated a new Oracle Card deck for Red Feather Mind Body Spirit, entitled “DREAM YOUR JOY.”

FIND this deck on Amazon.com

ABOUT this oracle deck:

“Dream a vision of the Joy you have always wanted. Through this 59-card deck, learn the author’s technique of “Mind Painting” to create an ideal picture in your mind of the way you would like things to be. Although we have aspirations throughout our life of doing wonderful things and becoming an amazing person, sometimes those dreams go unfulfilled, affecting our health—physically, mentally, and spiritually. Let the guidebook’s card descriptions and interactive activities, including dream meditations, affirmations, dance and pantomime exercises, automatic drawing experiments, and color correlations, provide the inspiration to help you seek answers inside your soul. Let the colorful, whimsical, “inner childhood” images of these cards empower you to feel the great joy and love in the universe, even through the darkness that may surround us. It’s never too late to continue building your ideal dream!” Judy Mastrangelo.com

Judy, this deck is beautiful. Why did you create the deck?

One of my intentions in creating this deck is to share what gives me happiness in life, hoping it will inspire others. I encourage people to develop a “Mind Painting” in their imagination of their “Ideal Self” – a “portrait” of the wonderful person who they would like to strive to be. They can truthfully determine the best ways they can improve in order to develop themselves to the utmost and fulfill their highest dreams.

Although I am mainly a professional Fine Art Painter, and an author, there are other things I discuss in my Card Deck. But I always stress that I am not a Health Care Professional.

I just enjoy talking about topics I’ve experienced, that have been a delight to discover in my lifetime. I realize everyone must come to conclusions about what is best for them. By connecting with your “inner self,” you will discover what will work best for you.

I mention improvements such as through diet, exercise, and fun ways of developing your imagination and creativity, etc. My quest is to encourage people to find happiness by doing what they truly enjoy. We all have innate talents that lie deep inside of us. You might have them hidden from childhood within your soul. All it takes is for you to find them, and kiss them to awaken, to grow and help you develop into a fantastic being!

I’ve worked with many types of people over the years, from young children to teens, adults, and seniors, and have urged them to discover themselves through Art, such painting, drama, dance, music, etc. These wonderful experiences I’ve had with people have been incorporated into this oracle card deck.

For instance, I include forms of dance and movement, painting and drawing, as fun type meditations and activities with some of my cards.

Judy, why did you name the deck “Dream Your Joy?”

My own “favorite worlds and beings” which greatly inspire me, I’ve found are the imaginary “Spirits of the World of Fantasy,” such as fairies and elves. I’m very happy depicting this eternal world, since it makes me feel young and joyful. That’s one of the reasons I named this deck “DREAM YOUR JOY,” and why much of the artwork included has a fantasy theme.

I’ll now mention titles of some of my cards, which will give you an idea of different themes I’ve used. We can do some of the activities in your mind, since they might include experiencing things of the past, and contacting loved ones not on the earthly plane anymore. We can remember them in a wonderful way, and “bring them back” in our minds, since they will always exist within our hearts.

In the accompanying booklet to the deck, I’ve written some encouraging and positive affirmations and meditations to go with some of the cards. I also discuss the colors of the artwork, in terms of the important meaning of the spiritual “Chakras”.

“FOREST FOLK” Make a visit to enchantment

“OUR ANIMAL FRIENDS” They give us guidance and protection in life

“SHY VIOLET” Everyone goes through periods of feeling inadequate

“JOYFUL FAIRY”: Bring out your happiness

Here is an affirmation from this card that can be recited when needed:

"Oh Joyful Fairy, please lift me from my dejection. I feel so melancholy and alone! I need to be with you, and fly and float with you through the air. Teach me how to turn my despair into hope, and my failures into self fulfillment. Help me to smile again, laugh again, and love life again! I open the window of my soul to you. Please visit with me!"

"Oh, I see you now! There you are! Thank you for coming!
I am so grateful to you!
I feel Blessed."

    1. Thank you, Liz. The idea is to shuffle the deck and pick a card. Each card has an entry in the guide book. There is a discussion and various meditations you can try. I like to use oracle cards for inspiration. I have a friend who used rune stones (she picked one each day) to write the direction her character would take during that day’s writing. Oracle cards help us draw on our inner power and are great for inner exploration.

    1. I miss that too, Jacqui. I don’t have a group of women to hang out with anymore. We’re all retired military and spread all over the country. It’s fun to feature my author friends. It’s always fun to learn more about each other.
